I have been reasonably successful in my profession offline by following one successful model i.e. Telemarketing.
My job is to support deserving NGOs (Non-Government Organizations) financially and make them self sustainable. People outside India call these NGOs as NPOs meaning Non-Profit Organizations.
I took this profession of fundraising and supporting the NGOs about 11 years ago. Have gone through a lot of trial and error methods of reaching the position where I am. I am not satisfied with myself though I have accomplished some achievements in my professional life. If 21,000 under-privileged children spread across 20 different locations across India are provided atleast one meal a day, wouldn't you call this as an achievement ? On an average if you calculate Rs.10 as cost per meal per child, I would like to you make your own calculations as to how much we would require to meet out the expenses of providing meal to 21000 children. I hasten to add here, that it is a collective effort of all the NGOs who are associated with us and not my own individual effort. I can still take the credit because the concept is designed by me and people are following my guidelines.
When I started telemarketing efforts about 4 years ago, people around me were not sure whether this will work. Their apprehensions were understandable. Getting donation is not an easy task. When you sit across the table and talk to a prospective donor, you are not sure whether you will succeed in getting donation. If this is the reality, how can a telecaller convince the donor over the phone and make him accept to donate. But, today, people have accepted that telemarketing works and I have seen that many NGOs all across India who have not associated with me also following this model.
To people abroad who are reading this post, it may appear, what is so great about the innovation. Let me clarify to them. In India, telemarketing was not a part of fundraising activity of any NGOs. Asking donation over phone was not acceptable to Indian NGOs. I started this and took the bold step of experimenting myself by providing employment opportunity to differently abled girls and boys. Infact among my initial batch of telecallers, 3 of them were blind.
I have not come here to talk about the success of telemarketing experience unless I am asked for. I have come here to share my experience in Internet Marketing.
What made me get into Internet Marketing ? My vision is to ensure "No Child in India should be left hungry". If this has to happen, I would require an army of people to join my movement besides enormous amount of funds. If this has to happen, Internet is the channel that I need to look at to reach out to people. That's how I am in.
In the beginning, being an amateur in Internet Marketing, didn't know where to start ? Everything that I saw was appearing great to me. Tall promises of funds were made for a pittance investment. Went on investing few dollars initially and then discovered that there is a lot of scammers in Internet. This discovery is due to many genuine internet marketers who were warning the new entrants in Internet not to become a victim and avoid being a scape goat.
Just this morning, I read a wonderful article in the internet in charlies page. After going through his article, I feel I should treat him as my mentor. Indians who are reading this post can identify who is "Ekalavya".... For peple abroad, I wish to say a few words about Ekalavya.
Ekalavya wanted to learn "bow and arrow shoot:" from Dronacharya who did not accept him as his disciple as he was considered to be untouchable person. But Ekalavya treated him as his "Guru" and learnt from distance.
